What is MEMO?

MEMO is Minnesota’s professional organization for all school library media specialists, technology coordinators and specialists, technology integrationists, and anyone else is interested in application of information and technology to learning.

Why should I join?

  1. Cost. MEMO offers wide range of member benefits and support at a very low price. Individuals can join MEMO for as little as $60 per year. Institutional memberships for schools and school districts are also available.
  2. Connections. MEMO communicates through an e-mail list and social networking website that involves over 800 education professionals. This makes it easy for members to share information, build best practices, connect with others in education, and get critical questions answered. MEMO also has a presence on Facebook and Twitter that allows further sharing of information and ideas.
  3. Advocacy. MEMO members are represented by a professional lobbyist at the Minnesota Legislature who tracks school library and education technology issues and advocates for MEMO’s mission to help students build information and technology literacy skills for success in a global society.
  4. Professional Development. MEMO provides some of the best professional development opportunities available for people in the school library media and education technology fields. MEMO hosts three professional development conference events each year in fall, winter, and summer. We tap in to our state network of library and education professionals AND bring in national experts to provide participants with the most current information on hot topics such as mobile devices and e-books, trends in youth literature, bring your own technology initiatives, and the flipped classroom.

Please remember that if you have not renewed your membership to MEMO we need your support and participation! The MEMO Member application form is linked below:

For a number of years, the MEMO board has considered changing the name of our organization. The board has discussed how in changing times, we can update our name to reflect all that our organization encompasses. We recognize that the role of media specialist has grown and includes many skills related to technology as well as information literacy. We also acknowledge that our organization is suited to serve those who work as technology integrationists and other roles meeting the needs of digital learning.

The video above is a comprehensive look at the pros and cons of a MEMO name change, current proposed names, and a request for further input. The MEMO board would like to make an informed decision as to whether or not to bring this issue to an official member vote and requires additional member feedback.

If you choose not to watch the video and have not yet responded with your input, kindly share your thoughts here: http://goo.gl/IPYQJ
