Database training for parents

Hi there,
I am curious if any of you have offered database training for parents. Does doing so up database usage by students? Hand outs and training only seem to work with students when you require them to use it. Thoughts and ideas would be great. My district uses SELCO and doesn't have subscriptions other than theirs.
