MEMO - Minnesota Educational Media Organization

Serving school media and information technology professionals in Minnesota

I was just hired to create and supervise a computer club for our school.  My principal has given me free reign, all she said was she wants us to create projects that showcase the great things that are happening in our school and post them on the web page.

If anyone has a computer club at the elementary level I would love to hear about it!  I am curious to know what kinds of projects do you do?  What ages do you have in the club?  How often do you meet?

I am thinking about meeting twice per month, and holding 6 week sessions that are either topic specific or age group specific.  For instance, perhaps we would say the first topic would be iMovie or Scratch, and we'd target 4th and 5th graders, then the next round would be iMove or Scratch and target the primary levels; however, we would encourage the 4th and 5th graders to stay on as student mentors.  That way students who want to choose topics that interest them, but the kids that are "hard core" could participate all the time first as learners, then as mentor/learners.

I would LOVE to hear from everyone with experience OR ideas!
