Author Laura Elliott will be presenting at the AASL Conference in October and is interested in possibly arranging some visits with schools when she is here in Minnesota. In her email she says, "In terms of grade level, I write picture-books through YA historical novels, so I speak to all ages in school visits. MEMO is a statewide organzation but is also part of some important nationwide networks. Our involvement in those organizations provides support and a link to national endeavors. In addition, we receive the benefits of a connection with a wider base of resources and information.

Our challenge and our opporunity
An interesting discussion has been taking place regarding the requirements for the media specialist in a building. At this time in Minnesota, schools are not required to have a licensed media specialist and there is not requirement for media center staffing. It is up to the administrators how they chose to staff their media centers. After the Fall Conference
I am sorting through the notes, advertisements and business cards, and memories of the 2009 MEMO conference which took place in Rochester. It would be difficult to select a favorite session or most valuable opportunity as there were so many. The weather was dreary but that inside the excitement of the event was obvious. And already the ideas are beginning for next year’s conference.
