Seeking input on authors: T. DeGazelle. D. Dorcas, R. Jacobson

I attended the author event a the MEMO conference and identified Terri DeGazelle, Dara Sanders Dorcas, and Ryan Jacobson as potential authors to invite to our elementary schools. Our schools serve K-4 students. Has anyone hosted a visit by these authors?
Thank you. Mary Alice Anderson

Rick Chrustowstki

Wisconsin author/Illustrator RIck Chrustowski visited the 6 elementary schools in Winona this winter. The students and staff loved him! He described the book writing and publishing process, showed slides, and drew a special picture which he doanted to each school. People are still talking about him. He writes literacy non-fiction for younger students. The books look easy because they are small and highly illustrated, but they are packed with great information.

Hi Mary Alice,
Thanks for sending me a note. I wasn't able to attend MEMO this year. I have been out of school a couple days for SELCO training and didn't want to miss teaching my students. After taking it off my radar, I didn't even think about attending on Saturday. So silly.
It sounds like it was a great conference! I am looking forward to reading the handouts online.
ZM is going well! I am glad to have a job in Media and thrilled to be focusing on one school this fall. Being part time has worked out well, too since I am doing my literature review this term and my MA project next term. Next fall I may be full time again with more of ZM to oversee.
Thanks for recommending some authors for school visits. That is always a great help.
Take care,
Anne Marie

I miss those SE region get togethers too. But we are all so busier (and getting busier still every day) that I can understand why they don't happen. Perhaps we can arrange something virtual and digital.

I'm all for exploring new possibilities for MEMORandom. Right now I don't have any ideas other than something that is easy to read, colorful and something you don't have to download, except some special documents might need to be attachments so they retain their formatting.

Your email bounced back to me (the mac.com address) so I was lazy and just pasted the message into your comment wall. I hope you get it! : )

Those of you who attended the board meeting over the weekend know that I volunteered us as a committee to pursue alternate forms of sending out our newsletters - specifically memorandom and MT News. (Marc - do you remember who else should be added into this conversation?)

I figured I should get the conversation started by email - although we can use the ning too for discussion.

Anyway - The multitypes are using Constant Contact (the service used for the newsletter sample Jane sent out) for the 23 Things messages they're sending out, and Metronet is going to start using it for their newsletters/mailings.

According to Deanna, it's really inexpensive - $15/month for up to 500 names, and $30/month for up to 2500. Maybe something to consider as a way to push MEMOrandom out to members instead of them having to go download a pdf? (We could make both available, too...)

I think it would be wonderful if we could take a look at Constant Contact, and any other similar services and see how they would fit our use in getting our newsletters out to our members easily, professionally, and inexpensively.

So - please let me know what you think. It would be wonderful if we could start with a goal. Perhaps:
* By the summer leadership we will bring a proposal to the MEMO board.
* By fall we would have our new plan in place and be sending newsletters out in this way.

Let me know what you think -
Laurie

You will have to give me the scoop when you get a chance. There is a possibility (depending on gas prices) that I might bring Josh down to the area late summer - early fall. If I see that it will work out, I will drop you a line with details.
